Thanksgiving

A lot of people helped to create this web site. The following is a list of many of those contributors. The list is in no particular order.

John Niemann First of all, of course. John Niemann collected heplmates nearly through his whole life. He stamped and printed and wrote some 100000 diagram sheets. And he answered all questions people asked when they wrote articles, awards or were just simply composing. Without him this database would never have been possible.
Die Schwalbe Generously bought the Visual FoxPro software with which this database is done. Not only have they donated the money but they allowed to lend the boxes ("Kästen") from Hans Gruber who sent them to all helpers. In fact they were very helpful in all, special thanks to Günter Büsing and Hemmo Axt! The database will go to their administration when the Internet server is fully running!
Horst Bäcker Nearly 1400 problems after the work in the evenings in a very short time.
Elmar Bartel We had several nice discussions on chess problem databases with Elmar. Thank you for sending bitmaps of chess pieces created with LaTeX.
Erich Bartel For giving his Allumwandlung-collection without asking questions and just for being a nice person.
Ralf Binnewirtz Nearly 1000 problems "after the work in the evenings". Nice that he gave back the box personally.
Michal Dragoun Michal generously donated his collection of helpmate twomovers. He collected about 9000 h#2 from which we could use nearly 5600 problems. A nice side effect is that he had access to some sources of the Eastern countries which would be hard to get by us.
Hilmar Ebert For giving his approval to use the contents of an upcoming book.
Werner Frangen For lending a lot of chess problem magazines.
Andrey Frolkin For compiling a list of several hundred retro problems of mostly eastern chess problem magazines.
Norbert Geissler Gave his huge author database to us. Fitted perfectly our desires. Donated some CDR´s and copied them. We had some nice discussions on the PDB program with Norbert.
Antonio Garofalo Some smaller additions from Italian magazines.
Hans Gruber Administrator of the Niemann-collection, having masses of "Kästen" in his parents house in Bobingen he packed and sent all boxes on the weekends. He answered many questions and deciphered most of Niemann´s hieroglyph´s, besides that he always supported us in every way. Not that he has some other things to do.... Thank you for lending us your collection of feenschach issues and for giving us a lot of definitions of fairy pieces.
Josef Haas He collected a lot of retro problems, all of which can be found in the retro database.
Joost de Heer For continuing the Retro Corner web site, started by Philippe Schnoebelen. The retro database profited a lot from his web site!
Stefan Höning Not directly related to the PDB but author of the best software tool we can think of to get the problem sheets to data files. Always there if there were questions regarding TeX.
Henrik Juel For compiling a list of retro problems by Niels Hoeg.
Markus Manhart Delighted by the idea of having a big database he immediately offered his help. And he did help. He must have worked very, very hard to be the No.1 hacker to this project. He surely was possessed: more than 20000 problems go to his account.
Ralf Krätschmer He offered his help, got the boxes, did his work and sent the data. Simple as that. Very convenient for us and very helpful for all.
L'Echiquier de Grenoble This chess club in Grenoble generously lent Gerd a collection of all issues of Europe Echecs from the beginning on. This was the start of the retro collection, and therefore the start of the Problem Database.
Günter Lauinger For sending copies of the newest retro problemes of Europe Echecs and for sending the solutions of the retros published in Die Schwalbe in electronic form.
Torsten Linß Collector of Duplex and cycle problems he had no problems including them to the project. Additionally he delivered some problems of newer publications.
Valery Liskovets For sending retro problems with pRA and related themes.
Thomas Maeder Added many newer problems from the Post-Niemann-era.
Thomas Minx Added nearly 1000 problems to the database.
Andreas Mokosch in memoriam He simply offered his help in a letter which we gladly accepted. He worked on more than 2200 problems and even had a box of problems at home when he sadly died because of a heartattack. He was much too young and we will not forget him. Rest in peace, Andreas.
Franz Pachl A "last-minute"-helper, thanks for more than 1200 inputs to the database.
Vito Rallo Some smaller own additions.
Heike Ritter For catering, love, support and just accepting this horror project.
Hans-Jürgen Schäfer The third in the row: he has hammered more than 9500 problems to the database. Some nice telephone calls made it clear: A nice, generous and overall gentle person. Did offer his help even as it got closer to the deadline.
Ronald Schäfer Some 1400 problems without asking questions...
Philippe Schnoebelen For creating a web site for retro problems. The retro database profited a lot from his web site!
Bernd Schwarzkopf For agreeing to use the descriptions of the fairy pieces.
Lothar Thelen For helping making the cover and giving some good tips about the layout!
